All-Time Teams

40-Man Rosters
Below are the team's top 40 players based on career WAR with each franchise. I also list the WAR per 162 games played (which is actually per 650 plate appearances for position players and 34 starts for pitchers). The 100+ column represents OPS+ for hitters and ERA+ for pitchers. Lastly, games played with the team. An asterisk (*) by the years played means the player spent their entire career with the franchise. Rankings current through the 2020 season.

Starters & 25-Man Teams
I put these teams together after a lot of research, using both conventional and advanced statistics, while also weighing other factors such as award voting and tenure with the team.  I also favored more recent players whenever there was a close call. On that note: comparing players across eras is difficult, but it's especially so for 19th century ballplayers because the game was so different from what we have now so they were not eligible for the starting lineups.

All-Traitor Teams

Some of the greatest moments in any sports rivalry come when players switch allegiances.  Below are two different All-Traitor teams.  The first team lists the players who contributed the most to both franchises, as determined by the harmonic mean of WAR (Wins Above Replacement).  To do well in harmonic mean a player needs to produce for both teams, and it is calculated thusly: 2*(dWAR*gWAR)/(dWAR+gWAR).  The second team lists the players with the highest franchise WAR of anyone who switched clubs.
